Saison 2021/2022

Sortir du moule. Epouser les formes.

Sortir du moule. Epouser les formes.

Breaking the mould. Giving shape.

Artists: Brooke DiDonato, Yohanne Lamoulère, Arno Rafael Minkkinen, Nina Röder

For something to reveal its interior, it must break open. This "break" is often brutal, at least in the literal sense, so the act of breaking open requires an unambiguous position, a deep conviction, and the courage of decisiveness.

The breaking of the mould is a definitive, non-reversible act!
It is an artistic and an existential process. The mould, the hard shell, symbol of serial reproduction and anonymity, is destroyed, raising the question of how individuality is defined. The new situation opens many perspectives - unknown, potentially dangerous, and certainly uncertain.
The next step, then: "Giving shape." Rejecting a particular configuration inevitably means new contours being defined. Turning the page to start a new chapter.

"Breaking the mould. Giving shape." Breaking out is a conscious choice, not a necessity. The act is not at all inevitable, but neither is it impossible! Will the subversive dimension be rewarded? At least it comes with considerable creative potential which broadens the horizon and shows the individual what they can be - at the same time showing them what they are not... or no longer!
Ultimately it is the story of a metamorphosis.

The photographic season 2021/2022 shows several artists who have braved the adventure and struck new paths beyond the familiar. The impact of their work leaves a trace - like a rock hitting water and creating ripples, slowly expanding in circles for a while - quite a long while, even...
