Cliärrwer Säiten, Cliärrwer Zäiten
The world is changing rapidly, technologically, socially and geopolitically. Many transformations have also become apparent in Clervaux over the past decades. Every change begins with a decision, and what happens is rarely coincidental.
Photographer Nico PATZ has captured the soul of six significant places in Clervaux: Cleveland Tramrail International, Clinique St François, the post office, the swimming pool, the Hôtel du Parc and the ballroom of the old school. Some buildings are still standing, others have long since disappeared. Nico PATZ succeeds not only in showing empty rooms, but also in making the spirit, history and character of these places tangible. For a
moment, corridors, staircases, machines and halls come back to life, an art that requires attention to detail and an extraordinary photographic eye.
The photographs evoke memories and allow visitors to relive Clervaux's past. They not only show familiar places, but also remind us of buildings and institutions that have since disappeared: petrol stations, cinemas, pharmacies, schools, butchers, bank branches – all the lifelines of a town.
A special feature of the exhibition is the silence that pervades all the motifs. Whether perceived as peaceful, contemplative or rather melancholic, this silence encourages reflection and lends the photographs a touching depth.
With this exhibition, Nico Patz invites visitors on a journey into Clervaux's past – a journey full of memories, nostalgia and quiet moments that sheds new light on the town's history.
Biography
It was purely for pleasure that Nico PATZ discovered artistic photography in his youth. Self-taught and a long-standing member of the Diekirch photo club, he has participated in group exhibitions for over 15 years. In 2009, he had the opportunity to present outdoor photographs on the theme of motor racing as part of Clervaux - Cité de l'Image. Since 2008, he has been working to preserve various remarkable buildings in Clervaux from oblivion. He presents some of these photographs in his current exhibition, which he complements with a new illustrated book.
