ASTRO SELFIE (2022-2023)
Selfie culture operates in the world of social media and follows the rules of Instagram, TikTok, and others that provide a platform for the expression of one's own identity.
Yet the medium itself is collective.
Unwritten rules govern self-presentation. Identity functions within the collective, always presenting itself individually but against a common backdrop.
The temple of selfie culture is the Selfie Museum in Berlin and other big capital cities, which provides a backdrop for individual identity. The same backdrop serves everyone and every individual in the expression of their identity.
This has a strange effect on the person who enters this stage. They appear like an alien, an extraterrestrial visitor exploring a foreign world.
In my work, I want to visualize and question this tension and place it in the context of humans and the collective, which they seek to escape but need to feel their identity.
